The REDD+ Selva de Urundel project prioritizes prevention as the most effective strategy against wildfires. This requires knowledge, understanding fire causes, and recognizing high-risk situations.

On March 7, 2025, a theoretical and practical training session was held at CAISSA’s offices in Urundel, led by Agronomist Mariano Beltrán, coordinator of REDD+ Selva de Urundel. Participants, learned about fire behavior, extinguisher use, and forest fire prevention and control. A live demonstration was conducted with a rapid-attack fire truck.

The February 2025 fire, ignited on a neighboring farm due to pruning waste burning, highlights the critical need for safer land management practices. Thanks to early detection, the fire was contained before reaching the REDD+ Selva de Urundel project area, preventing its spread and further degradation of the surrounding zones.

Strengthening fire prevention education not only safeguards the region but also fosters a more resilient and prepared community.
